The winter doldrums have long set in. But, while we can all dream about a sun-soaked beach vacation, we can’t all jet off on one.
So, what’s the next best way to get into vacation mode without splashing out on an actual trip? Sipping a sweet margarita, of course.
Thankfully, National Margarita Day takes place Feb. 22 (National Tequila Day is July 24, in case you somehow missed that memo), and we’re more than ready to indulge in a few vacation-worthy drinks.
So, we asked the team at Casamigos Tequila — yes, the celeb-backed brand that’s owned by George Clooney and Rande Gerber — to mix up three easy-yet-delicious margaritas to mark this momentous day.
RECIPE: Pineapple Cilantro Margarita
2 oz. Casamigos Reposado Tequila
1 oz. pineapple juice
.5 oz. fresh lime juice
.5 oz. cane sugar
8-10 cilantro leaves
1/2 thick rim sugar, cilantro salt, equal parts (optional)
Combine all ingredients into tin shaker. Add ice. Shake vigorously for 8-10 seconds. Strain into rocks glass. Add ice and garnish with 2 pineapple leaves.
RECIPE: Spicy Jalapeño Cucumber Margarita
2 oz. Casamigos Blanco
1 oz. fresh lime juice
.5 oz. sugarcane syrup
2 cucumber slices
1 jalapeño slice
Garnish with 1 cucumber slice and 1 jalapeno slice over top through skewer
Combine all ingredients into tin shaker. Muddle cucumber and jalapeno. Add ice. Shake vigorously for 8-10 seconds. Fine-strain into rocks glass. Add fresh ice. Garnish.
RECIPE: Aloe Vera Margarita
2 oz. Casamigos Blanco
1.5 oz. aloe vera juice
.5 oz. fresh lemon juice
.5 oz. aloe-vera-infused syrup*
Combine all ingredients into tin shaker and add ice. Shake vigorously for 8-10 seconds, then strain into rocks glass.
Add fresh ice and garnish with fresh aloe vera leaf.
*To create aloe-vera-infused syrup: Bring 12 cups of water to boil in large saucepan. Add fresh-peeled aloe vera and simmer. Let soak for 20-25 minutes. Fine-strain into another large saucepan, add 12 cups of sugar and bring to boil. Stir until fully dissolved. Let cool. Store in sealed container and refrigerate. Good for 3-4 weeks.
