Former U.S. first lady Michelle Obama is speaking in Vancouver today at two sold out events hosted by the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade.
The moderated speaking engagements will be held at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Among those attending, will be 350 Metro Vancouver youth, who were given free tickets by Vancity.
Vancity president Tamara Vrooman says Obama is an inspiration for millions of young people.
“Providing access for the next generation of leaders is a priority for us, and we hope they find the experience inspirational and motivating,” she said, in a statement.
Vancity says it partnered with the B.C. Ministry of Education, and various community organizations, to distribute the tickets to a diverse range of young people who may not otherwise have access to participate in such events.
“Michelle Obama is a role model for millions of women and youth, and an inspiring speaker,” said Anne Giardini, chair of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade and chancellor of Simon Fraser University.
