Daily Poll: Do you support these proposals for DT’s Granville Street?

Vancouver Coun. George Affleck has proposed changes to the downtown Granville entertainment district that would see more restaurant patios, extended bar hours, better late-night transportation options and surveillance cameras.

Affleck’s motion comes just a few weeks after a nightclub employee was fatally stabbed on Granville Street while trying to break-up a late-night altercation outside Cabana Lounge. The councillor suggests that these changes would help put more eyes on the street and make it less likely for people to congregate outside bars and for trouble to break out.

“We have people coming down from the suburbs and drinking all night,” said Affleck, leading to what his motion calls “street disorder and gender-based violence.”
