A Chilliwack man who has been involved with youth sports in his community since 2005 appeared in court Wednesday to answer to sexual assault charges.
Richard Codie Hindle, 35, was arrested for offences dating back to 2011, police said in a news release.
Hindle has been involved with youth sports in Chilliwack since 2005, coaching basketball at elementary and middle schools, as well as a local leisure centre. He has overseen overnight programs, camping trips and a sports academy.
An investigation into Hindle’s conduct was launched by the RCMP’s Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment’s general investigations unit after sexual assault allegations were reported to authorities early in 2016.
Hindle, also known as Codie Anderson, has been charged with one count of sexual interference with a minor, but police believe there may be additional victims and have urged anyone with information regarding the investigation to come forward.
“We are mindful that there may be other victims who have not reported to police, we encourage you to talk to your children about any contact they may have had with Mr. Hindle,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Darren Stevely.
Anyone who believes they or someone they know may have been a victim has been urged to contact the detachment, quoting file number 2016-6735, or report the incident to the police in their community.
